August 18 2001 ER2 Validation Experiment
On August 18 2001 a MASTER validation experiment was conducted at Lake Tahoe, CA/NV by the MASTER team. The experiment involved overflights of the MASTER instrument at 3 altitudes. The 3 overflight altitudes, above mean sea level, were 21780 m 15470 m and 12470 m respectively. The MASTER instrument was flown on the NASA ER-2 Aircraft with an air fence. The radiance at the sensor was predicted by propagating ground measurements through the atmosphere and the predicted radiance compared to the MASTER measured radiance. The results for each of the MASTER thermal channels at the 3 flight altitudes are summarized below.
